Abstractions in Landscape

Emily Carr graduate specializing in painting and printmaking

Image

The Prairies and the Coast are a big part of my childhood and present life.  These geographical locations are the inspiration for the patterns, shapes and mark making found in my paintings, drawings and prints.  I take an abstracted approach in the interpretation of the landscape either by aerial photos of farmland or the pure shapes found in branches of trees. I am not particularly interested in a "representational rendering".  Rather I am curious in the overall compositional messages that convey ideas or psychological moods.  My artwork is an expression of themes and ideas inspired by knowing and experiencing nature and the land.  My colour use depicts the earth tones and rich colour spectrums found in the natural beauty of Canada.
